Established in 2005, Global Air Quality Ltd is an independent environmental consultancy specialising in air quality, dust and odour assessments for planning and environmental permit applications. Based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, we provide friendly and reliable consultancy services to clients across the UK and beyond.

Our project experience encompasses a wide range of industrial sectors, including waste management, energy generation, mining and minerals, agriculture, wastewater treatment and chemical plants. Residential and commercial experience ranges from minor schemes, such as single dwellings or change of use, to extensive mixed-use masterplans.

Director, Dr Sarah Irons has over 24 years of experience of working with developers, architects, planners and individuals to provide support at all stages of the planning and environmental permitting process. She is a full member of both the Institution of Environmental Sciences and the Institute of Air Quality Management.

Example Project Experience

Pez Concrete Ltd

Dust risk assessment for concrete batching facility in Telford, Shropshire to support planning and environmental permit applications. The assessment addressed potential impacts on nearby sensitive land-uses, including schools, residential properties and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Whitbread Group Plc

Detailed air quality assessment in support of the planning application for a mixed-use scheme including a new Premier Inn hotel and student accommodation in Norwich city centre. The assessment included dispersion modelling of traffic-related emissions to assess site suitability.

Anochrome Ltd

H1 Risk Assessment to determine the likelihood of significant impacts on air quality associated with emissions from an electroplating facility in Walsall. The assessment supported an environmental permit variation application.

Lewdown Holdings Ltd

Assessment of potential construction and operational phase impacts on air quality associated with a proposed airside support vehicle facility near Heathrow Airport. The work was undertaken in support of the planning application for the facility and included an air quality neutral assessment, in accordance with the requirements of the London Plan.

Kosy Living Ltd

Detailed air quality assessment in support of the planning application for a proposed co-living scheme in Bath. Detailed dispersion modelling was undertaken to assess the potential exposure of future occupants to poor air quality associated with emissions from the adjacent railway line and traffic on the local road network.

Red Earth Ltd

Detailed air quality assessment of construction and operational phase impacts on air quality associated with a proposed residential development in Bideford, North Devon in support of the planning application for the scheme.

Hatton Farm Energy Ltd

Detailed dispersion modelling assessment of potential impacts associated with a gas-fired peaking power plant in Derby to support the planning application for the facility. In response to local concerns, calculations were undertaken to determine the maximum elevation of the thermal plumes arising from the proposed generators, with respect to potential impacts on low flying aircraft using a nearby airfield.

Bupa UK

Air quality assessment to support the planning application for an extension to an existing care home in the London Borough of Islington. The assessment was undertaken to ensure that future occupants would not be exposed to poor air quality and that dust generated during the construction phase would not affect nearby residential properties.
